Creating a new base for engineering skills training in east Norfolk was a job close to Wellington’s heart – given the company’s own commitment to apprenticeships and skills training for young people.

The 9,000 sq ft building was the first to be constructed on the Blackfriars Court site at Gorleston’s Beacon Park, a site which has subsequently seen a further 13 industrial units built by Wellington, bringing inward investment and jobs to the area.

The Nexus Centre includes a skills centre teaching basic engineering skills, English maths and ICT, with students able to access apprenticeships and engineering qualification. Also in the building are a manufacturing workshop, energy/renewable laboratory and CAD facilities, as well as training areas for electronic, instrumentation, mechanical and electrical engineering, an ICT suite and classrooms.

With a tight timescale for completion, the entire building was constructed, fitted out and handed over within 12 months, enabling the Centre to open at the beginning of 2013, offering a stunning new facility to help train the next generation of engineers for Norfolk.
